Kubrick at MoMI opens with two cuts of The Shining
Museum of the Moving Image opens its complete Kubrick retrospective, presented with the Criterion Collection, with the U.S. theatrical premiere of the International Version of The Shining and a conversation with Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown and archivist Michael Chaiken, followed by the American cut.
At noon in the Redstone Theater, The Shining: International Version gets its U.S. theatrical premiere. Stanley Kubrick cut this shorter version for European audiences after the 1980 release, and his longtime assistant Leon Vitali said it was the director's preferred cut. It is preceded by a conversation with Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown and Michael Chaiken, archivist and producer of Criterion's The Complete Kubrick box set.
At 3:30 PM the museum screens the original U.S. cut of The Shining (144 minutes, 4K DCP). The Kubrick series runs through December 27 and covers every film he directed.
Tickets for each screening are $17.50, $12 for seniors and students, $10 for youth and $7 for MoMI members, plus a $1.50 online fee per ticket. Seating is general admission.
