SculptureCenter, at 44-19 Purves St, is showing Aziz Hazara: Coming Home, on view from Sep 19 to Dec 28, 2026. Hazara gathered items discarded during the abrupt 2021 withdrawal from Bagram Airfield near Kabul, from kneepads and uniforms to electronics, exercise equipment, kitchenware, tents and fragments of infrastructure, and has returned a portion of them to America.

SculptureCenter calls the show an archaeology of what is left behind after war ends, and says it marks the first time this body of collected material has been shown. It is curated by director Sohrab Mohebbi, and was recently reviewed by Emily Watlington in Art in America.

On Saturday, Dec 12, from 3 to 5:30 PM, a related symposium, War Trash, takes place off site at The New School in Manhattan, presented with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics and the Center for Human Rights and the Arts at Bard College. It opens with an artist talk by Hazara, who joins remotely.

SculptureCenter is open Thursday to Monday, 12 to 6 PM. See the exhibition page for details, and our calendar listing for the fall opening for more on this season's shows.
