Two new gyms in Hunters Point: KidStrong and Vibe Fitness

A kids' development center on 50th Avenue and a three-floor fitness club on Borden Avenue both opened in Long Island City in the past year.

Two places to work out have opened in Hunters Point in the past year, one for kids and one for grownups. We spotted both on a walk.

KidStrong Long Island City is at 2-33 50th Ave., in the Jasper building at the corner of 49th Avenue and 5th Street. It held its grand opening on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025.

KidStrong describes itself as a science-based training program that builds "strong, confident and high-character kids." It serves children from crawling age through 11, in classes grouped by developmental stage: BabyStrong (crawling to walking, with a parent on the floor), walking to 2 years, 2 to 4, 4 to 7, and 7 to 11. Membership includes one 45-minute class a week.

Classes are reserved in advance; the center says it cannot take walk-ins. It offers a free trial class, runs day camps for ages 4 to 11 during summer and holiday weeks (no membership needed), and hosts birthday parties on weekends.

Vibe Fitness LIC opened Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at 10-04 Borden Ave., in the three-floor space once occupied by iFly indoor skydiving, QNS reported. It is the brand's third club, after Woodside and Greenpoint, and its flagship.

The club has five studios for classes such as Reformer Pilates, hot yoga, HIIT, spin and boxing, three floors of equipment, indoor and outdoor turf areas and a rooftop training space. For recovery there are steam rooms, saunas, ice showers, hot baths and a recovery room with massage beds and infrared light therapy. There is also a health cafe.

Vibe does not list kids' classes. It does have a Kids Zone: supervised childcare for ages 2 to 12 while a parent works out, by reservation only, Monday to Friday 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The club lists it at $40 a month.
