LIC Community Garden: public hours end Oct. 31
The GreenThumb garden at 5-30 49th Ave. is open to the public 20 hours a week from April 1 to Oct. 31, so there are about two weeks left this season.
Cornstalks are tied to the fence at the Long Island City Community Garden, spotted on a walk this week. If you have been meaning to look inside, go soon: the season ends Oct. 31.
The garden is at 5-30 49th Ave., between Vernon Boulevard and 5th Street, on the same block as Andrews Grove. It is part of GreenThumb, the NYC Parks program founded in 1978 that supports more than 550 community gardens across the city.
The sign on the gate says the garden is open to the public 20 hours a week from April 1 to Oct. 31, as posted. Volunteer members run it. The garden's website lists its weekly open hours and how to ask about becoming a member.
